The size

The A290 uses 225/40 R19. The GT runs Michelin Pilot Sport EV; the GT Performance and GTS use Pilot Sport 5S. These are specific tyres, with a compound and construction designed for the weight and instant torque. This is not the place to save money with an unknown brand.

Pressure

The reference is the door placard or the manual. Many cars arrive with 2.6 bar transport pressure, which makes the suspension harsh and the steering nervous. Several owners prefer 2.3–2.4 bar on the 19-inch wheels for normal use. That is reported experience, not a universal recommendation: if you are loaded, go to the load pressure.

Measure cold, before a long drive. TPMS warns you, but it does not replace a monthly check.

Wear

The front axle takes the load: weight, traction and torque. If all four tyres are the same size, rotate front to rear to even out wear. After a heavy kerb strike, check alignment.

  • Legal minimum tread: 1.6 mm. For rain, change before 3 mm.
  • Cracks, bulges or cuts: replace immediately.
  • Wheel bolts: 125 Nm, tightened in a cross pattern with a torque wrench.

Winter

In cold and wet conditions, a summer tyre loses grip. If you live in a snowy area, fit winter or all-season tyres with the 3PMSF marking. Chains may not be compatible with the 19-inch wheels; check the manual before buying.

Repairs

A sidewall puncture cannot be repaired. A nail in the tread may be repairable if the structure is intact. Do not use emergency sealant as a permanent fix: it can affect the TPMS.
